Birgit Stulens - Plato's Lament series - Set of 5 Postcards
Birgit studied Photography at the SASK Academy of Fine Arts Hasselt and participated in a summer workshop led by Erwin Olaf at Flacc in 2001. She graduated with an Honorable Mention in the Specialisation Degree in 2009.
In her work, Birgit seeks out the unremarkable, the patterns, and the recurrent. Her imagery is shaped by an interest in contrast and dualism. Subjects evolve into abstraction, transforming images into paintings where silence is found.
She is drawn to concepts of time, repetition, and the subtle differences in light and shadow. Her awareness of being close to nature and our limited time in this world has focused her attention on vulnerable and transient themes.
Over the years, her activism for nature preservation has become increasingly apparent, especially in her latest series, Natura Naturata, Plato's Lament and Velato Svelato.
