Demstering: The mysterious landscapes of Herman Maes

Herman Maes' Chinese ink drawings depict dark landscapes that are fantasized and dreamed, with fragments of reality. Desolate places where there is no-one or no-thing, but where the essence remains: light that slowly disappears into darkness.

Herman Maes (Kinshasa, 1959) is a Belgian visual artist. His work contains installations, paintings and illustrations, and is situated in the twilight zone of abstraction, imagination and reality. As a curator, Maes organizes national and international exhibitions to show forgotten art from the present and the past.
